No matter how hard you are trying, sometimes things just don’t work out the way you want. From time to time you will experience some time when things don’t work well even though you are working really hard, even though you are doing everything you can do.
In such situations, of course it is important to look back and think of the reasons why it is not working out or what you could do better, but sometimes you can be feeling so sad or disappointed that you cannot even feel like thinking about it any more.
Then you might be caught up with feelings like these – “I might not good enough.” “Is it even worth it to keep trying?” – and sometimes, it is just natural if you feel this way.
But if you believe in the negative voices in your head and give in, then, that’s it. Your negative voices will be the fact.
On the other hand, if you can keep going no matter what, things will change eventually and you will make progress – and finally you could achieve your goal.
However in reality, we are not superman or superwoman – it is really hard to keep you motivated and keep going on your own, when you are facing a hard time.
So today I would love to share with you three quotes that helped me so much to keep going even when I was feeling so sad by getting unfulfilling results after a hard work.
- “How to stop giving fear power over your life” – Katie Ping
If you have a gift – this world needs it. Someone somewhere will benefit from it – whether you serve as a teacher, you inspire them, you guide them to realize their dream, or you fulfill a need they have. Do not discredit your dream as unhelpful or pointless. It matters – no matter how small it may seem.
If there is something you love doing, something you are good at doing, the world needs it – even if it seems so small that you even think it could be useless and worthless for anyone but you, there will be someone who appreciates your work.
I am not just talking about things you do for others, or things you do to help others, but also about things you do simply because you love doing it. When you are doing something you are so passionate about, when you are fully enjoying what you are doing, or when you are working towards your own goal which seems to have nothing to do with anyone but you, you can actually be helping people around you – by spreading positive energy.
You can inspire, and encourage people who see you, just by enjoying every small steps you are taking.
- “4 Good Reminders When You’ve Had a Bad Day” – Angel Chernoff
When you feel like quitting, remember that sometimes things have to go very wrong before they can be right. Sometimes you have to go through the worst, to arrive at your best.
When you feel you are stuck, you can feel as if it’s the dead end and there is nothing left you can do to make it better. However, if you calm down, zoom out, and see the situation in a bigger picture, you will probably see that you are just going through a phase that is trying but it will not last forever. Chances are the day you can achieve your goal could be right around the corner. Remember you always need to stop and bend a little before you leap.
Because you’re putting so much pressure on yourself to succeed right away and if you’re not getting the result that you’re seeing right away, you attribute that to your entire identity and your entire self worth, which is totally not okay. So what I wanna leave you is this quote from Jay Shetty, and it’s actually one of my all time favorite quotes, and that is ‘Don’t judge your life by a day.’
When things are not working out, when it’s hard to see the progress, we – especially people who takes things so seriously – tend to forget that what we do – our behavior, the results, and success – and who we are – our identity and self worth – are different things. Sometimes you can misinterpret the fact that “you failed” as “you are a complete failure”. Once you are trapped by that idea, it will be so hard to feel motivated again, and try again. It will take longer than it should to feel okay again and keep going after you experience the hard time.
You can never be defined by your ability or your success. Your value is not something can be measured by competing. It’s not something you have to earn, but something you already and always have. You are here right now, and you are a step ahead from where you were yesterday. Or at least you are trying, and even if you failed, you learned and experienced. That already has meaning.
It may take some practice, but it is really important to see “yourself” and “your success” as the separate, different things. Success requires actions, and before you take actions, you need to be happy and healthy. It cannot be the other way around.
These are the quotes that helped me when I was feeling like giving up.
